Chris Paliewicz, Danielle's uncle, remembers those days, not like they happened more than a year ago, but like they were just yesterday. He was walking his dog Dec. 3, 2016, the day after Danielle went missing, when he got a call saying they needed to get into Danielle's apartment.
The day after that was spent searching for her, which has been pretty much how the ensuing 365 days have gone.

The University Police Department (UPD) at Buffalo State College is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a Buffalo State sophomore who has been missing since Saturday, April 24. Saniyya Dennis, 19, was last seen on campus leaving her residence hall around 11:00 p.m. Saturday.

The Purdue University Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating the disappearance of Shane Nguyen, a 55-year-old Asian male. He is believed to be in extreme danger and may require medical assistance.

Over the next few weeks, Bethany’s friends began receiving Facebook messages from Bethany’s account. It has not been revealed what exactly those messages said, but apparently Bethany’s friends were immediately able to tell that the messages were not from Bethany. Her friends finally contacted her family on February 19th, 2011. Bethany’s grandmother then drove to her apartment to check on her. She found Bethany’s car in it’s usual spot, but it was parked at a “weird angle” and a tire was flat. After knocks to her apartment door went unanswered, Bethany’s grandmother called Loudon County police and reported her missing. Once police began investigating, it was revealed that Bethany had not used her bank accounts or cell phone since January 29th, nor had she reported to work or attended her classes. Police determined that the last person to see Bethany that day was Ronald—who told police that he went over to the apartment on that afternoon, but left a few hours later and never heard from Bethany again after that.
Years have passed since Bethany’s disappearance, and there has been no trace of her, nor has there been any record of her child being born. Bethany’s family has long suspected that Ronald had something to do with her disappearance. Her mother claims that Ronald was abusive towards Bethany, and that Bethany had planned to cut ties with him once and for all. Ronald apparently also stopped cooperating with the police early on into the investigation. He eventually began another relationship with a woman named Vickey Willoughby, who also claimed that Ronald was violent and abusive. In 2014, Ronald was arrested for attacking and shooting Vickey 3 times, once in the head, during an altercation at Vickey’s North Carolina home. It’s been nearly four years since Danielle Stislicki disappeared, and Local 4 spoke one-on-one with investigators of the case about some key pieces of evidence they found that day.
Stislicki, 28, of Farmington Hills, walked out of her office in Southfield on Dec. 2, 2016, and was never seen again.
“Just the fact that Dani did not show up for dinner that night -- that alone was completely out of character for her,” Michigan State Police Lt. Sarah Krebbs said.
“From the way the vehicle, the apartment -- some of the pieces of evidence we began noticing -- that could have been something,” Farmington Hills police Chief Jeff King said.
It was a cold Friday night when Danielle walked out of her Southfield office. According to eyewitnesses, she stopped to help someone, and then she was never seen again.
Witnesses said that person she stopped to help was Floyd Galloway, a security guard at her MetLife office on Telegraph Road.
In the time since, Galloway has been charged in her murder and is awaiting trial, while Danielle’s family waits for answers.
“(He was) one of the few security guards that would extend himself,” Danielle’s mother, Ann Stislicki, said. “YOu don’t suspect someone like that.”
Ann Stislicki worked at the same Southfield office as her daughter, and they both knew Galloway.
“Her and I would meet in the cafeteria on her floor, and we would have lunch together and he would appear there,” Ann Stislicki said.
She admits she thought it was strange, and that Danielle told her she felt uncomfortable with Galloway. At one point, Danielle even said something to him.
“The point of being very pointed, saying, ‘I don’t think you should be up here,’” Ann Stislicki said.
The family thought the issue was solved, but soon afterward, Danielle went missing from work.
“I was the operations lieutenant of the investigative section,” King said.
King is the Farmington Hills police chief now, but four years ago, he was one of the first investigators to arrive at Danielle’s Farmington Hills apartment.
“Putting the job aside, the amount of family support that the Stislickis fathered that day to assist us in doing an area search (struck me),” King said.
He’s limited on what he can say because of the impending trial against Galloway, but he shared some of the evidence that caught his attention that day.
“There were certain aspects of the car that caused immediate concern,” King said.
Her car was parked just eight feet away from her apartment door.
“So, one of the first things we did was, in processing the vehicle, we impounded the vehicle and brought it here,” King said.
“Usually there is some distance put between the victim and their vehicle, on purpose,” Krebbs said. “That also added a very mysterious twist to it -- that her car was there.”
Krebbs has worked with family members in long-term missing person’s cases for 20 years. She was brought in to help the family during this investigation.
“When they went into her apartment and knew that she had left behind her belongings, her cat -- they knew that day that this is very wrong,” Krebbs said.
Tips started coming in to the Farmington Hills Police Department. Officers worked overtime on the case.
“The last known place that we could kind of start back to -- and we went back to there and we really started there,” Krebbs said. “As we started and spoke with people, that is where we started to gain that insight into, ‘OK, now we are getting a better picture into what transpired that day.’”
Police searched Galloway’s home in Berkley, removing many items, including a mattress. The former private school student who went to Shrine and played sports was named a person of interest in Danielle’s disappearance.
Then, there was a major twist in the case when Galloway admitted to sexually attacking a jogger at Hines Park in Livonia. The attack happened three months before Danielle’s disappearance.
The jogger described her attacker to Krebbs and. She drew a sketch, and that, along with DNA collected at Galloway’s home, took him from a person of interest in the Stislicki case to being charged with premeditated first-degree murder.
“Honestly, this case, in doing this 25 years -- this is some of the most phenomenal police work I have ever seen,” King said.
Jessica Perry, Danielle’s cousin, said they are just a few years apart in age and they grew up together.
“There is not a lot of closure where people have peace,” Perry said. “I don’t think that has been found in everyone.”

Police said Anna Bronislawa Maciejewska was reported missing by her husband, Allen Gould, on April 10, 2017. WCAU reported that the Poland native was the mother to a 3-year-old son and a successful actuary for Voya Financial at the time of her disappearance.
“We are out there looking for her body,” Corporal Robert Kirby said. “We haven’t ruled out any suspects.”
Gould reportedly told police that he last saw Maciejewska, 44, leaving their Charlestown Township home and that she didn’t turn up for work that day. However, friends said the last time they spoke with Maciejewska was March 28—after that, they claimed to have only spoken to her through text messages, according to The Mercury News.
Following her disappearance, coworker Sharon Rouse said she visited Maciejewska’s house and claimed to have found her phone on the table.
“She would not have left her phone,” Rouse told the station.
State police also said they’re looking into the two weeks prior to Maciejewska’s April 10th reported disappearance. Reports indicated that she had taken time off from work and was scheduled to return the day she was last seen alive.
Further, state police said they recovered her blue Audi A4 in Charlestown Meadows, two miles from her home, on May 8, 2017. Afterward, Embreeville Barracks used dogs to search the nearby woods and neighborhood for the missing mother.
With limited clues, police said they’re interested in speaking more with her husband.
“We last spoke to [him] two months ago,” Kirby said. “Allen would not provide any useful information.”
Maciejewska is 5-feet, 4-inches tall, weighs about 160 pounds, and has hazel eyes and blonde hair.

The Cecil Hotel, located in downtown L.A., has a reputation for death. More than a dozen murders and suicides have taken place in and around the Cecil Hotel since its 1927 opening. Elizabeth Short, the Black Dahlia, was said to have been seen at the Cecil days before her murder, and the hotel served as a temporary residence to serial murderers Richard Ramirez and Jack Unterweger at times. Crime Scene largely dispels its reputation as cursed by digging into the problematic socioeconomic history of the area, and the hotel’s part functions as low-income housing.
But Lam hadn’t booked a stay at the Cecil. The Vancouver student, who had long been planning a solo trip up the coast of California, opted to stay at the Stay on Main, a downtown budget hostel, for the Los Angeles leg of her trip. The documentary reveals that the Cecil had converted half of its floors to the Stay on Main at the time of Lam’s trip in an attempt to market itself to travelers while simultaneously maintaining its long-term residences on separate floors. While the two properties had different lobbies and entrances, the Cecil Hotel and Stay on Main had shared elevators. This is, among other reasons, why the elevator video of Lam on the last day she is seen alive was so frightening to so many people online.

Lam was reported missing soon after she failed to check out of her room on February 1, 2013. The docuseries recounts several notable occurrences before she disappeared—the hotel had moved Lam from a shared room to a private one as she had been disturbing her fellow guests. She had been escorted out of a television taping earlier that week because of disruptive behavior, and the hotel’s manager at the time, Amy Price, describes an outburst that Lam had in the hotel lobby, as well. When it was discovered that all of Lam’s belongings—including her I.D., medication, and luggage—were left behind in her hotel room, search parties of police and dogs combed the streets downtown and the halls of the hotel. But they discovered nothing. And so, with no leads, they chose to release the four minutes of jarring elevator footage of Lam to the public on February 14, causing a frenzy online and in the media.
On February 19, 2013, twenty days after Lam was last seen, a hotel staffer was sent up to the roof of the hotel to check on the water tanks after several guest complaints about low pressure and murky water coming out of the taps. It was then when Lam’s body was discovered, floating naked in one of the four large tanks that provided the hotel’s water supply.
The case was closed in June of 2013, and Lam’s cause of death was listed as accidental due to drowning, with bipolar disorder listed as a significant factor. According to the coroner featured in the docuseries, her autopsy revealed that she had not been taking the full dosage of her medication around the time of her death. But the startling behavior of Lam in the elevator and the enduring mystery of how she got up onto the locked roof and into the tank in the first place kept a community of YouTubers, Redditors, and internet sleuths suspicious about the circumstances and hunting for clues. As Crime Scene depicts, inexplicable coincidences and strange oddities in the case—such as the uncanny similarity to the plot of 2005 horror film Dark Water or a government-administered tuberculosis test in the area at the time entitled “Lam-Elisa”—kept conspiracy theorists active online for years following Lam’s death.
The documentary works through the case with new interview footage from investigators, web sleuths, and historians, narrated in part by excerpts read from Lam’s Tumblr, Nouvelle-Nouveau, which she used as an online diary of sorts, and with graphic recreations of the crime scene. It conveys the degree to which Lam’s tragic case became a paranormal myth in pop culture and online. And although the recreations in Berlinger’s documentary can feel morbid and unsympathetic at times, the through-line of the four-part series is a rational analysis of the socioeconomic circumstances and facts in the case.
The documentary does its best to fact check a number of the most prominent conspiracy theories about the Lam case. For example, one theory claimed that the vocalist of a German metal band killed Lam, however, Crime Scene notes that the musician was in Mexico at the time of the death.

Gould reportedly told police that he last saw Maciejewska, 44, leaving their Charlestown Township home and that she didn’t turn up for work that day. However, friends said the last time they spoke with Maciejewska was March 28—after that, they claimed to have only spoken to her through text messages, according to The Mercury News.
Following her disappearance, coworker Sharon Rouse said she visited Maciejewska’s house and claimed to have found her phone on the table.
“She would not have left her phone,” Rouse told the station.
State police also said they’re looking into the two weeks prior to Maciejewska’s April 10th reported disappearance. Reports indicated that she had taken time off from work and was scheduled to return the day she was last seen alive.
Further, state police said they recovered her blue Audi A4 in Charlestown Meadows, two miles from her home, on May 8, 2017. Afterward, Embreeville Barracks used dogs to search the nearby woods and neighborhood for the missing mother.
With limited clues, police said they’re interested in speaking more with her husband.
“We last spoke to [him] two months ago,” Kirby said. “Allen would not provide any useful information.”
Maciejewska is 5-feet, 4-inches tall, weighs about 160 pounds, and has hazel eyes and blonde hair.

Early life
Timmothy Pitzen was born in Aurora, Illinois to parents James Pitzen and Amy Joan Marie Fry-Pitzen in 2004.[3] On May 11, 2011, Timmothy's father dropped him off at his kindergarten class at Greenman Elementary School. His mother checked him out of class between 8:10 and 8:15 AM CDT, citing a non-existent family emergency. She dropped her vehicle off at a repair shop at 10:00 AM. An employee of the shop drove Fry-Pitzen and her son to the Brookfield Zoo. They returned and retrieved their vehicle at 3:00 PM, and drove to the KeyLime Cove Resort in Gurnee, where they spent the night. The next morning, the pair drove to Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, and were spotted on security footage in the checkout line at 10:00 AM the next day. Timmothy has not been seen or heard from since.[4]
Disappearance
Between 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on May 13, Fry-Pitzen telephoned several family members, including her mother and brother-in-law, telling them that she and Timmothy were safe and not in any danger.[5] Cell phone records indicated the calls were made from an area northwest of Sterling, near Route 40.[5] Fry-Pitzen failed to contact her husband, however, who had been attempting to locate the pair after being notified by his son's school that he was not present when he arrived to pick him up at the end of the school day on May 11. Timmothy was heard in the background during the calls, saying that he was hungry.[5]
At 7:25 p.m. that evening, Fry-Pitzen was seen, alone, on security cameras at a Family Dollar store in Winnebago, where she purchased a pen, notepaper and envelopes.[5] At 8:00 p.m., she was sighted at a Sullivan's Food store in Winnebago, again unaccompanied.[5][6] At 11:15 p.m., she checked into the Rockford Inn at Rockford, where sometime that night or the next morning, she took her own life by slashing her wrists and neck and taking an overdose of antihistamines.[5] At 12:30 p.m. on May 14, her body was found by a hotel maid along with a note.[7] In the note, Fry-Pitzen apologized for the mess she had created, and explained that Timmothy would never be found, but was safe with people who would care for him.[8]
Investigation
Police found that the knife Fry-Pitzen had used to kill herself contained only her blood, but that "a concerning amount" of blood found in her car belonged to her son Timmothy. However, a family member later revealed that the stains were likely caused by a nosebleed Timmothy had suffered in the car earlier that month.[9] It was also noted that Fry-Pitzen's cell phone was missing. An examination of her vehicle revealed that it had been parked in a grassy area, possibly near a stream, but close to a highway.[10] In 2013, Fry-Pitzen's cell phone was located beside Route 78, but the discovery did not bring any new evidence.
James Pitzen has stated that he believes his son is still alive.[11] The case was broadcast on the American television series Live PD on August 25, 2018, with guest Angeline Hartmann of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children showing viewers an age progression photograph of Timmothy at age 13.[12]
Hoax reappearance
On April 3, 2019, local residents in Newport, Kentucky called the police to report a teenager wandering the streets after running across a bridge over the Ohio River. When police found the shaken and distraught boy, he told them he was Timmothy.[13][14] The next day, the Louisville office of the FBI revealed via Twitter that the boy in their custody was not Timmothy. Aurora Police spokesman Sgt. Bill Rowley said, "Although we are disappointed that this turned out to be a hoax, we remain diligent in our search for Timmothy, as our missing person's case remains unsolved."[15]

Four years later, in 1991, a waitress at a restaurant in Carson City, Nevada, encountered a teenage girl matching Cayedito's description who continually knocked her utensils to the floor, seemingly attempting to get the waitress's attention. According to the waitress, the girl grabbed her hand and squeezed it firmly each time the waitress handed back the utensils. The girl was in the company of an unkempt couple. After they left, the waitress cleaned their table and found a napkin under the plate the girl had been eating from. It contained two brief messages: "Help Me" and "Call the Police", written on it.[6]
Police interviewed an uncle who was married to Penny's sister, but declined to name him a suspect.[3] Investigators believe Cayedito to be deceased, although her whereabouts remain unknown as of 2021.[1] Her mother, Penny, died on April 18, 1999 from a combination of liver cirrhosis and cardiac issues[7] aged 46; in 2016 police stated they believed Penny may have had more information than she had given police concerning her daughter's disappearance, citing a failed lie detector test.[6] Anthonette's father, Anthony, died on August 17, 2012.[8]
Three years after Cayedito’s disappearance, her 25 year-old mentally handicapped step aunt, Louisa Estrada (sister to Larry Estrada), disappeared on September 5, 1989 from Gallup, NM.[9] Like Anthonette, Louisa has never been found, and there have been questions as to potential connections between to the two cases.
In a 2016 interview with the Albuquerque Journal, Wendy Montoya, Anthonette’s youngest sister (who was five at the time of the her sister's abduction), spoke of the struggles that she and her family went through. “It just broke my whole family up. It was a very dark and dysfunctional time.”[4] Montoya revealed that she and her mother could barely talk about Anthonette without crying, and then without drinking and getting high. “That was how we coped with the pain, to numb it, not to forget about it but to put it on the shelf, you know?”[4]
The trauma of losing her sister lead Montoya into a life of drug addiction, alcoholism, gang affiliation, and acquiring a criminal record throughout her adolescence into her young adulthood. Her lifestyle inevitably caused her to lose custody of her children to the state. Around 2007, Montoya successfully turned her life around. “I went into rehab. I struggled to get my kids back, struggled to get away from the old person I was, to break the cycle I was raised up in, and to get far away from here. And I did it.”[4] She further added that if she could not find her sister, she could at least find herself.
As of 2016, Wendy is reported to reside in Bakersfield, California,[4] where she leads a private and productive life with her own family and career. Montoya admits that although her memories of Anthonette are vague (due to the fact that her sister was taken when she was five), the loss still haunts her and she misses her to this day. For Wendy, Anthonette is indelibly frozen in time “at age 9, a little girl with a jumble of teeth, soft brown eyes and a caregiver’s heart.”[4] Montoya still maintains a bit of hope that her sister is somewhere out there, and that there is still time to discover the truth of what became of her.
The life and whereabouts of Wendy’s middle sister, Sadie Montoya, are unknown. Although it has been reported that Anthonette’s disappearance and the events that followed lead to the two sisters becoming estranged.

Gannon’s disappearance was first classified as a possible runaway, but the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said on Thursday, January 30, that they were now calling him an endangered missing child.
Gannon lives with his father, Albert Stauch, and stepmother, Tecia Stauch, in the Lorson Ranch area of Colorado Springs. Stauch’s father is in the Colorado Army National Guard. Gannon’s mother, Landen Hiott, lives in South Carolina and is in Colorado helping with the search. Hiott and Stauch share custody of Gannon, according to his family. The sheriff’s office, other local police agencies, and the FBI are investigating. “If you have seen Gannon or may have information as to his whereabouts, please call the Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 719-520-6666,” the sheriff’s office said.
El Paso County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Mitch Mihalko, who heads the investigations division, was asked at the Thursday evening press conference why the case was upgraded to be classified as an endangered missing child from a runaway. He replied, “There are several factors in this particular case, we’ve been having cold weather, so the weather was one issue. The timeframe is another issue. The fact that he’s actually under the age of 13, he’s 11 years old, and he has specific medicine that he takes, we want to make sure that all the resources are being poured in to locate him.”
Mihalko, when asked if there is anything suspicious about the case, replied, “At this point, we have an active investigation. Our main focus is to get Gannon located.” He gave a similar answer when asked about foul play or anything that would lead to a criminal investigation, saying, “What’s important at this point is we’re focused on trying to find Gannon and that his safety is paramount to us. … I always believe in the best and I believe that we will be finding Gannon.” Police said Gannon is 4’9″ and weighs 90 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a blue fleece hooded sweatshirt (hoodie), blue jeans and tennis shoes, police said.

English, at a conference Monday at which he reiterated Friday's ruling, scheduled the next conference in the case for June 18 and announced a potential trial date for the second week of September.
Meanwhile, the victim's father, Michael Stern, who attended the conference, said a small group of family and friends held a memorial atop the Belmar bridge on Saturday to commemorate what would have been Sarah's 21st birthday.
"We just wanted to do something for Sarah's birthday,'' he said after Monday's court proceeding. "We press onward.''
Diaz-Cobo said he plans to review the voluminous evidence in the criminal case with his client and, after that, "we'll make a decision on how we want to go forward.'' He said he expects a trial date of Sept. 10.
Authorities allege that McAtasney, 20, of Neptune City, strangled his former high school classmate in her home on Dec. 2, 2016, stole about $10,000 from her and, with the help of his roommate, Preston Taylor, drove her body to the Belmar bridge and dumped it in the Shark River, leaving her car atop the span to make it look like she committed suicide.
Stern's body has never been recovered.
Stern's disappearance remained a mystery until Anthony Curry, an acquaintance of McAtasney, came forward to authorities in January 2017 and told them of a conversation McAtasney had with him the previous Thanksgiving. Curry told authorities that McAtasney, in the Thanksgiving conversation, outlined a plan to kill Stern, steal some money she recently came into and throw her body off the bridge.
On Jan, 31, 2017, Curry met McAtasney in Bradley Beach and recorded a conversation in which McAtasney reportedly confessed to doing just that.
McAtasney's previous attorneys, Charles Moriarty and Kevin Moriarty, filed motions last year seeking to exclude McAtasney's confession, as well as phone calls and Snapchat and text messages between Curry and McAtasney.
Ruling that the recording and messages could be presented to a jury, English said that McAtasney appeared boastful as he told Curry the story of what happened to Stern.
McAtasney and Taylor, who was Stern's date for the junior prom, were arrested and charged with Stern's murder the day after Curry recorded the confession.
Taylor, 20, of Neptune, has admitted helping McAtasney dispose of the body and has agreed to testify against his former roommate.
English said the next court date in June will be the deadline for McAtasney to take a plea bargain. If he doesn't, a September trial date is likely to be set, the judge said.
McAtasney faces life in prison without the possibility of release on parole if he is convicted of Stern's murder.

Search operations for a Seattle hiker missing since Aug. 1 have been suspended, officials said Thursday, but family and friends say they're not giving up.

White’s family says they just want closure. “I’ve accepted it, I’m just waiting for an ending, is all,” said Jeff White. “I’ve been waiting for a long time.”
Meanwhile, Graves says these cases can take years to solve. She says she’s not giving up anytime soon.
“I have to tell you, it’s a roller coaster. Some days you’re really hopeful and there’s a lot of forwarding movement in the case and then, sometimes, it’s discouraging. You just keep going. A lot of these cases are solved years later. Not every case is solved right away,” said Graves. “I will look for Holly as long as it takes to find her. I’ll never stop looking for Holly.”
The family is offering a $20,000 reward for tips that will bring White home. Tips can be submitted through the Facebook page or phoned into Graves at 575-613-3415.
